"Bajo Tejares Documentary Project"

Arrow Compass Productions would like to introduce you to the subject of our very first documentary feature: Bajo Tejares, Costa Rica.  Within Bajo Tejares you will find a collection of approximately 1,200 Nicaraguan refugees that have collected here since the Costa Rican government's attempt to "clean up" San Jose in the early 1990s.  These refugees left their country as their economy collapsed before their very eyes, and for some time, they found solace in Costa Rica through the humanitarian efforts of the UN, the US, and the Costa Rican government.  Unfortunately, the money eventually stopped flowing and these people were all but left behind and forgotten.  The community and the people within it are seen as "outsiders" and an unnecessary burden to the citizens of Costa Rica.  Abandoned and poor, these people subsist under the worst physical conditions - wooden shacks with dirt floors.  The unemployment rate is around 80 percent, with most surviving on day labor, prostitution, or drug trafficking.

In 2006, Faith Servant Missions, based out of Florida, began operations in the area with the noble intention of breaking the cycle of poverty that has engulfed the lives of these people.  They have constructed the Centro Comunidad Cristiana, a multipurpose building located at the entrance to Bajo Tejares.  It is here where educational programs for the youth of Bajo, such as After School Assistance, Literacy, Comprehension, and Mathematics, are implemented and true change first begins.  For the children in Bajo Tejares, education is the vital stepping stone to future success and the opportunity to leave poverty behind.  

Arrow Compass Productions, founded by Michael Pearce and Hillary Pierce, is traveling to Bajo Trejares this upcoming summer (from June 2nd to August 5th, 2009).  Our purpose is to document the progress of the programs created by Faithful Servant Missions in the lives of these people.  This is no small task, for these students are not only up against poverty, but against a culture of failure and acceptance of failure.  We are very excited to meet with these students fighting to break free from the vicious cycle of poverty, and to give them a voice with which they can tell their story.

Arrow Compass Productions will be working from a very modest production budget for a project of this size, and we are in dire need of donations to make this project a reality.  We must raise $4190 before June 2nd and we are asking everybody who visits this sight to please go to our donation page to help us make this film.  Please allow us to tell this story.
